Word for Saturday September 21. St. Matthew.

“While he was at table in Matthews house many tax collectors and sinners sat with Jesus…The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples ‘Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?’ He heard this and said ‘Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ Matthew 9: 10-13. St. Augustine said, “We count on God’s mercy for our past mistakes, on God’s love for our present needs, on God’s sovereignty for our future.”

Let us pray, Lord Jesus, we are all in some way tax collectors and sinners, yet You desire to show us great mercy every day. In receiving Your mercy, we learn what it is, and we are able to show mercy to others. May we always surrender to Your mercy, letting it triumph over our pride. We ask this grace from You. Amen. “Let your light shine!!” Be blessed. Larry.
