Word for Tuesday January 18th. “But the Lord said to Samuel . . . for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart . . . And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and fetch him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.” And he sent, and brought him in . . .
And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.” 1 Samuel 16:7, 11-12. St. Jerome said, “Martyrdom does not consist only in dying for one’s faith. Martyrdom consists also in serving God with love and purity of heart every day of one’s life.” Let us pray, Lord Jesus, appearances deceive us! The hearts are hidden and we cannot read them. You read all the hearts of the sons of Jesse and there was no one befitting except David and it is he whom You anointed. Give me a clean heart; that though people may not see my hidden intentions; they may always be noble and holy in Your eyes. Amen
. “Let your light shine!!” Be blessed. Larry.
