Word for Friday after Ash Wednesday, January 16.

“Why have we fasted, and you see it not? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you take no knowledge of it?” Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and oppress all your workers. Behold, you fast only to quarrel and to fight and to hit with wicked fist. Fasting like yours this day will not make your voice to be heard on high.” Isaiah 58:3-4. Pope Benedict XVI said, “Through fasting and praying, we allow him to come and satisfy the deepest hunger that we experience in the depths of our being: the hunger and thirst for God.”

Let us pray, Lord Jesus, You instruct us well: Fasting must be accompanied by change of heart, behavior, rendering justice and doing right all the time. You know Lord that this is hard for the weak children that we are. But it is possible with Your grace! Lord, give us extra grace at those low moments. Amen. “Let your light shine!!” Be blessed. Larry.
