Word for Friday August 1. St. Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop and Doctor of the Church.

“Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said ‘Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother named Mary, and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?’ And they took offense at him.” Matthew 13:54-57. St. Ignatius Brianchaninov said, “Whatever you do, on no account condemn anyone; do not even try to judge whether a person is good or bad, but keep your eyes on that one evil person for whom you must give an account before God—yourself.”

Let us pray, Our Father, we have been guilty of judging people, making assumptions and thinking the worst. Forgive us we pray, for we lack humility and true love. Lift us from our blindness, that we may see how truly needy we are of Your life in us, and so we may see the best in others, and leave their faults to Your care. Amen. “Let your light shine!!” Be blessed. Larry.
