And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus . . .  And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud. “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” Mark 9:2-4, 7. St. Rose Phillippine Duchesne said, “We cultivate a very small field for Christ, but we love it, knowing that God does not require great achievements, but a heart that holds back nothing for self.” Let us pray, Lord Jesus Your transfiguration, like Your baptism and prayer in the garden of Gethsemane, enable us to see for a moment the intimate personal relation between You and Your Heavenly Father. But we also see Your close contact with an earthly way of life, a life ending in death, and the overlapping of future glory with present difficulties in one profound mystery.
