Word for Thursday September 21. St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist.

“Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus heard this and said ‘Those who are well do notneed a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words I desire mercy, not
sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.” Matthew 9:11-13. Pope Francis said,
“Mercy is the very foundation of the Church’s life . . . The Church’s very credibility is seen in
how she shows merciful and compassionate love . . . Mercy is the force that reawakens us to
new life and instills in us the courage to look to the future with hope.” Let us pray, Lord Jesus,
help us to see with Your eyes. We are all sinners, yet You have called each one by name. We are
the very ones You came to save. We will not deny Your love for us, nor Your love for all people.
Rather, we will live in the truth, that we are Yours. Amen. “Let your light shine!!” Be blessed.
