“And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he comes here.” And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and had beautiful eyes, and was handsome. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.” 1 Samuel 16:11-12. St. John Chrysostom said, “Do not make your prayer an outward show. God looks not at the hands lifted up, but at the heart lifted up.” Let us pray, Loving Father,You do not look at outward appearances, but You see the heart. You looked upon the heart of David, young and tending the sheep, and chose him as Your anointed one. Father, we confess that we are not worthy in Your sight by our own strength. Shape our hearts according to Your will and make us worthy through Your grace. Anoint us anew with Your Spirit, that we may faithfully fulfill all that You send us to accomplish on this earth.May our lives bring You glory, and may our hearts always remain open to Your call.
