Word for Wednesday February 25. Blessed Sebastian de Aparicio.

“The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time: ‘Set out for the great city of Nineveh, and announce to it the message that I will tell you’…Jonah began his journey through the city … announcing ‘Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed,’ when the people of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and all of them…put on sackcloth.” Jonah 3:1-2, 4-5. St. Peter Chrysologus said, “Fasting is the soul of prayer, mercy is the lifeblood of fasting; so, if you pray, fast, if you fast, show mercy, if you want your petition to be heard, hear the petition of others.”

Let us pray, God Our Father, we certainly have reason to put on sackcloth and fast in our world today. We ask the wisdom of the Holy Spirit, may we pay heed to His leading, fasting as we are able, becoming channels of grace for the world. Lord Jesus, you spoke of fasting as a means of casting out evil – Saints in heaven pray for us, that our fasting will bear much fruit. Amen. “Let your light shine!!” Be blessed. Larry.
